The initial process for one of the most highly anticipated fights
in the Middleweight division has begun, as both legendary former champion,
Anderson Silva, and the young prospect in the midst of a meteoric rise, Israel
Adesanya have verbally agreed to fight one another, with the bout expected to
take place in Melbourne, Australia, where the young New Zealander will surely
receive a warm reception.
In his previous fight, Adesanya
put in a dominant performance over Derek Brunson, who had previously lost to
Silva himself, finishing the grappler in the first round of the fight, further
extending his undefeated streak in mixed martial arts to 15-0, and now, the
kick-boxer looks to continue his ascent up the Middleweight rankings by
securing a victory over the division's most successful fighter.
His opponent, Anderson Silva,
had been sidelined by a potential doping violation, which has since been
overturned as it was found that tainted supplements led to him testing
positive.
On the same card, reigning Middleweight champion Robert Whitaker
will defend his title against Kelvin Gastelum, and the winner of the
Adesanya-Silva bout will surely cement himself as a highly considered
challenger for the incoming title shot. Silva looks to regain the same title he
had defended ten times prior, while Adesanya looks to earn his first chance at
gold.
Although no official confirmation has come from the UFC as of yet,
the fight has been in consideration for quite a while, with many fans excited
at the prospect of matching these two fluid styles together, in what is
expected to be a highly active kickboxing scrap. With both fighters open to the
prospect of fighting one another, it seems more of a possibility than ever before.
